The QR code tools you’ve tried are either too basic or too expensive. We built something in between.

QR codes are no longer a novelty. They’re on restaurant tables, product packaging, business cards, event tickets, real estate signs, and payment terminals. Over 2.9 billion people are expected to scan QR codes this year alone, and businesses are generating eight new QR codes every minute worldwide.

Yet most QR code generators fall into one of two traps. The free ones let you create a basic black-and-white square — no customization, no tracking, no way to change the destination after printing. The paid ones lock every useful feature behind $15–$89/month plans and impose scan limits that can deactivate your QR code mid-campaign.

SCANilla sits right where the gap is.

What SCANilla Does

SCANilla is a QR code generator built for people who need more than a plain square but don’t want to pay enterprise prices for basic functionality.

Create QR codes for everything. URLs, WiFi networks, digital business cards (vCard), WhatsApp messages, email addresses, phone numbers, SMS, calendar events, locations, and plain text. Ten QR types, all free.

Make them look like yours. Choose from six dot patterns, three corner styles, and full color control — dots, background, corner squares, and corner dots can all be different colors. Upload your logo and it composites cleanly into the center. Pick from 13 industry presets (Restaurant, Business Card, Marketing, Event, Social Media, WiFi, Real Estate, and more) that auto-apply tested color schemes and styles.

Go dynamic when you need to. Static QR codes are fine for permanent things. But if you need to change where a QR code points after it’s printed — say you update your menu URL or swap a campaign landing page — dynamic QR codes handle that. Change the destination anytime from your dashboard without reprinting a single sticker. Every scan is tracked.

See who’s scanning. The analytics dashboard shows total scans, scans by day, device type, operating system, browser, and country. You see a clear picture of where your QR codes are performing and where they’re not.

Control access. Set passwords on QR codes so only authorized people can reach the content. Set expiry dates so promotional codes stop working when the offer ends. Set scan limits so a “first 100 customers” offer actually stops at 100.

Why We Built This

We run a WordPress products company. We make themes and plugins used by thousands of businesses. We’ve needed QR codes ourselves — for product packaging, event materials, client demos, documentation links.

Every time, we hit the same wall. Generate a free QR code and it looks generic with no tracking. Sign up for a paid tool and hit a 500-scan limit on the free tier or find that basic features like SVG downloads require a $16/month plan.

We decided to build what we wanted: a tool that gives you a genuinely useful free tier, a clean interface that doesn’t fight you, and paid plans that cost what they should cost for what they do.

What’s Free

SCANilla’s free tier is not a bait-and-switch.

Static QR codes are free with no expiry — always. Dynamic QR codes on the free plan include 3 codes valid for 1 year (introductory offer), with 500 tracked scans per month. No watermarks. No ads.

What’s Coming
